Stafford EDC Retains MBG
On May 24, the Stafford Economic Development Corporation unanimously approved a contract between the SEDC and the Mike Barnes Group.  The firm will serve as the SEDC’s economic development entity.  Stafford’s location within the Houston Metro, coupled with the unique fact that Stafford does not levy property taxes serves as a major foundation for its economic development effort.  The city enjoys a school district coterminous with the city’s boundaries.  The MBG appreciates the opportunity to provide leadership to this outstanding community’s economic development effort.

The Hillsboro Economic Development Corporation selected the Mike Barnes Group to provide the organization with a Labor Market Analysis. The firm appreciates the opportunity to work for the HEDC.

The Jefferson County, Texas commissioners court voted to approve a professional services agreement with Mike Barnes Group. The company provided leadership to the Strategic Planning Workshop on March 31, 2011 in Beaumont, TX.

ZEEP to Purchase EASTMAN TXE GASIFICATION Project in BEAUMONT, TEXAS
Will Provide New Supplies of Hydrogen and Captured Carbon Dioxide
HOUSTON, Texas, Jan. 21, 2011 -- Zero Emission Energy Plants Ltd. (ZEEP) today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement with Eastman Chemical Company Investments, Inc., to purchase all of the membership interests of TX Energy, LLC (TXE). Eastman Chemical Company Investments, Inc., is a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN). TXE is engaged in developing a gasification facility in Beaumont, Texas. The facility will convert petroleum coke, an oil refining waste product, into hydrogen (H2) and pipeline quality carbon dioxide (CO2).

Mike Barnes of MBG has been voted to serve as Vice Chair of the Blanco Economic Development Corporation.

MBG provides leadership to the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission Economic Development Board in updating the Community Economic Development Study.

MBG retained by the Lufkin EDC/Angelina County Partnership to provide Market Valuation and Action Plan.

MBG provided leadership to the Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation Board Retreat in identifying Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats relative to the Beaumont educational institution.

Intelligence Project
Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas has retained the Mike Barnes Group to provide a Workforce Intelligence System for the three county region of Texas that includes Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties. The firm has partnered with Workforce 1 Partners to initiate the first 2 phases of this 4 phase project, which will integrate workforce development and economic development activities. Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation retains the Mike Barnes Group

LHP  Hospital Photo

LHP Hospital Group, Inc. (LHP) and the Seton Family of Hospitals, the leading provider of health care services in Central Texas, have formed a joint venture to construct Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in Bell County.
The approximately $100 million, 180,400-square-foot, 83-bed hospital is slated to open in the third quarter of 2012. Ground-breaking is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.The hospital campus will include a 60,000-square-foot medical office building being developed by Rendina Companies, one of the nation's largest full-service healthcare real estate development firms, in joint ownership with the many specialists who will occupy the building.  "We are proud to join Seton in building this new hospital to serve the health care needs of Bell County and the surrounding area," Dan Moen, LHP CEO, said. "The hospital will feature a full-service emergency department plus acute-care services including women's services, obstetrics, cardiology, surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, imaging and diagnostic services, general medical and surgical services, and intensive and critical care."
