Mike Barnes has provided leadership to award-winning economic development organizations in Terre Haute, IN, High Point, NC, Plano, TX, Florence County, SC, Southern IN, Waco, TX, and Clermont County, OH. Mike possesses a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University. Barnes is a licensed real estate broker in two states. He also has completed the Texas Attorney General’s Open Meetings Training and the TEDC Sales Tax Seminar.

The Groesbeck, Texas Economic Development Corporation retained the Mike Barnes Group to serve as its economic development consultant.  The firm develops prospects, negotiates, markets, and identifies those economic development issues that are important to the community.  The firm also provides a Community Assessment for Site Selection (CASS).

Brookshire, Texas Economic Development Corporation

The Brookshire, Texas Economic Development Corporation retained the Mike Barnes Group to serve as its economic development consultant.  The firm provides marketing, negotiating, site evaluation and comprehensive economic development services for the Brookshire EDC.

International Economic Development Council

Mike Barnes served with the IEDC team after the BP Oil Spill to develop economic development solutions for Escambia County, FL in this crisis.

Stafford, TX Economic Development Corporation

The firm will serve as the SEDC’s economic development entity.  Stafford’s location within the Houston Metro, coupled with the unique fact that Stafford does not levy property taxes serves as a major foundation for its economic development effort.  The city enjoys a school district coterminous with the city’s boundaries.  The MBG appreciates the opportunity to provide leadership to this outstanding community’s economic development effort.

LHP Hospital Group

LHP Hospital Group, Inc. (LHP) and the Seton Family of Hospitals, the leading provider of health care services in Central Texas, have formed a joint venture to construct Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in Bell County.

The approximately $100 million, 180,400-square-foot, 83-bed hospital is slated to open in the third quarter of 2012.  The Mike Barnes Group appreciates the opportunity to serve LHP Hospital Group as its economic development consultant in its incentive negotiation process.
Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation Board

Mike Barnes provided leadership to the Foundation Board’s Workshop/Retreat in terms of identifying Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats as it relates to LIT.

City of Lufkin, TX Economic Development Corporation

The Lufkin EDC retained the MBG to develop a Market Evaluation and Action Plan for this East Texas community.
Lacy Lakeview, TX

The firm serves as the economic development staff for the City of Lacy Lakeview.  The firm provides ongoing economic development leadership to projects located within the city.  The firm has been retained for three years.

California Workforce Association

Mike Barnes and Jon Chara of Workforce 1 Partners presented to the California Workforce Association in San Diego during April, 2010 regarding the linkages of Workforce and Economic Development issues.
Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas (SETWORKS)

Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas retained the Mike Barnes Group to provide a Workforce Intelligence System for the three county region of Texas that includes Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties. The firm has partnered with Workforce 1 Partners to initiate the first 2 phases of this 4 phase project, which will integrate workforce development and economic development activities. Michigan Works Association

The Mike Barnes Group partnered with Workforce 1 Partners to conduct a workshop on Economic Forecasting in Regional Economies for the Michigan Works Association.
South Central Michigan Works

South Central Michigan Works retained Workforce 1 Partners to provide a comprehensive analysis and trend projection for the South Central Michigan Region in terms of its workforce needs.  Workforce 1 Partners, a nationally recognized expert in the field of Workforce, has asked the Mike Barnes Group to assist in the economic development portion of the project.  The Workforce 1 Partners team consists of Jon Chara, Tim Condon, and the Mike Barnes Group. 

Carlsbad, New Mexico Department of Development

The Mike Barnes Group
was retained to provide leadership to the organization’s Strategic Planning Retreat.  The firm assisted in the development of the organization’s Mission Statement, defining the role of the organization, partners, and allies, and identification of the areas of focus for the organization.
Orange County Economic Development Corporation

Orange, TX— the firm, in partnership with an Austin company, established the Strategic Plan providing for the marketing, fund-raising, and overall guidance and direction of the economic development effort.

Balch Springs 4B Corporation

Balch Springs, TX— the firm completed the Economic Development Strategy of Action including marketing, business attraction and retention/expansion.  The firm provided on-site staffing for the Balch Springs 4B group with 20 hours per week in the community. The firm has been retained for two years. 

Robinson, TX

The firm was engaged to complete an Economic Development Strategy of Action containing marketing, business attraction and retention/expansion.  The firm serves as the economic development staff for the city.  The firm has been retained for two years.

Everman, TX

The firm was engaged to provide leadership to the community in the context of completing an Economic Development Strategy of Action.  This included the overall economic development plan for the city.  The firm is now engaged (has been for 2 years) to provide on-site staffing in the economic development context.

The Development Authority of Rockdale County (Georgia) retained the Mike Barnes Group to provide a Critical Analysis and Strategic Directions as part of an overall “What Path Should the County Follow?”  project.
Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation
